hand colored antique map of Asia by the Jesuit Heinrich Scherer,
printed in ca. 1702 (dated 1700) for 'Atlas Novus (1702-1710).
Geographically the map is very imaginative with a bulbous Iedso (Hokkaido)
attached to Honshu by a narrow isthmus and Compagnie Land and Staten
Eyland to the north of Hokkaido.The map is decorated with a lovely
cartouche with an elephant, lion, birds, crabs some animals in land
and fishes in sea. |
