Original
antique chart (in its first state) of Groningen, Friesland en Emdenland,
Netherlands by Johannes van Keulen, printed in 1684. The
decorative and highly detailed sea chart shows in the centre
Emden, the mouth of the river Ems and some offshore islands Wangerode,
Nordernei, Borkum, Ameland, Schiermonikkoog, Terschelling (der
Schelling) etc. The map provides
information on anchor places, sea-banks and many place names mostly
along the coast of the North Sea. The Dutch firm
and printing house van Keulen was one of the most important and leading
publishers for sea charts during the ending 17th century. Their firm was
leading in providing charts to the Dutch East India company. |
