Description Rare antique print of the crater-lake Agnano,  about 5 miles west of Naples, Italy. Close by is the Grotto del Cana with its carbonic acid gas.  This print was drawn by Joris Hoefnagel, who visited Italy in 1577/1578 together with his friend Ortelius. The upper panel depicts Abraham Ortelius gesturing towards the Lake while Hoefnagel, his friend and traveling companion, is sketching it and the remains of the Apollo Temple.   The lower panel shows a group of men doing unpleasant things to a dog in the aptly named "Grotta dei cani".  There is Latin text on reverse .

Condition Fine antiquarian condition after professional restore. The print was re-backed with rice paper to consolidate some  cracks and the weak centre fold. ( not visible on the front). There is some discoloring of the upper image and a minor spot of the lower image.
